District Map

Are you inside or outside of the mosquito district?

Nearly all of our day-to-day activities happen within district borders (highlighted blue). Since our name is the Camano Island Mosquito Control District, we occasionally receive inquiries from people outside of the district but still within Camano asking for help with mosquito problems. While we can offer advice and guidance, we can only provide substantive mosquito control services within district borders. Our borders are based off of which regions had enough support to sign our special district into existence in the 1990s.

Do mosquitoes obey district borders?

No way! We're aware of many problematic mosquito sites on Camano Island outside of our district, but are limited in what we can do about them. Ultimately, our community would benefit from island-wide mosquito management. We have the benefit of a land-locked population of mosquitoes, but are currently only taking care of the problem in one corner. Mosquitoes don’t care about our district borders, but the reality is that we can only provide substantive services to people within the district.

How can the district grow?

We are a special district of Washington which means we need volunteers to collect signatures to get us on a polling ballot in order to change our borders. Signatures from regions outside of the district have been collected before, but fell short of the number needed to annex additional areas. We are happy to assist with future efforts, but are limited in how much time can be devoted to the process. Feel free to reach out to our district manager for additional information.
